Hi all, welcome back to another blog! This week I take a look at enterprise applications and how they are used in businesses. 👇
Enterprise applications are central to almost all businesses in the modern day. By definition an enterprise system is a large software system platform designed to be used in a corporate environment such as a business or government entity. I have used different enterprise applications whilst working in Bausch & Lomb, Arachas & PwC. My college experience with enterprise applications came during my ERP module in year 3 where I gained a strong understanding of SAP, although it took me some time to figure it out!
I will begin by speaking about Amazon as I was intrigued to learn that the enterprise application that they have adopted. Amazon began using SAP in 2008. They felt their old system was outdated and needed urgent change. It's no surprise given the success and global presence of Amazon that the change was successful. They now use SAP in all departments such as purchasing, HR and order management.
Starbucks is a company more well known for their over the counter sales rather than the office work behind the scenes. They have adopted Oracle as their enterprise application of choice. They can now automate office processes and day to day business activities. This one interested me as you wouldn't automatically think of the ERP systems used by a company like Starbucks.
Toyota is another huge global brand and a brand I use on a daily basis. They are another company to successfully implement an enterprise application. The company had the goals of increased operational efficiency, reduction of work hours and a paperless system. They, chose to use Microsoft Dynamics 365 which has been very successful for their company.
In my Digital Economy class we discussed the success that UPS has had due to their impressive and robust systems.
That's it for today's blog. I hope you learned something new and will be well versed on information systems if you encounter them!
See you next week!😁
Take care.
