The rise of E-Commerce!

Hi all, hope you are well! Welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to be talking about something that has become very prominent in recent times and I predict will sky-rocket in the next 10 to 15 years, e-commerce! Essentially e-commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services online. Numerous platforms to allow e-commerce have popped up in the last few years. Such as these listed below: 👇 WIX: The first one is one I've seen advertised for some years now and that is wix.com. Wix is a tool that makes it easy to create your own website. It gives scope for customisation and personalisation and prides itself on being user friendly. A key component for any e-commerce business is a website and I would recommend this platform for a gym as customers want to easily see which type of membership is for them and an easy to navigate website will allow for this. If you have time to spare and would like to build your own website, this video will show you how! Big Cartel: Big Cartel...

It's all about engagement!

Hi all, I hope you are well! Welcome back to the latest edition of my blog. This week I am going to talk about the "buzzword" in media and content creation in 2023. That word of course is engagement. What is engagement? Why is it so valuable? What techniques can be used to increase engagement? If those are questions that play on your mind on a daily basis you've certainly come to the right place! 👇 In the modern day your attention has become more valuable than ever for companies. I touched on why this is the case on my previous blog (feel free to check it out!), but essentially your attention is vital for advertisers to sell you products and for content creators to monetize their content.  The only way to get as much of your attention as possible is to keep you engaged. So what is engagement? Engagement is an umbrella term for actions that reflect an measure how much your audience interacts with your content. Whether it is a newspaper article, a blog or a Youtube video ...

Should you be more secure with your personal data?

Hi all, I hope you are well! Welcome back to my blog. This week I am going to discuss something that I think has quietly become a real problem in recent years and that problem involves big data and the issues that arise from it.  First of all we must define what big data is. From a quick google search big data, on the face of it, "refers to data sets that are too large or complex to be dealt with by traditional data processing application software." For me like most people my age that means very little however, for the purpose of today's blog I will briefly discuss the potential ethical and social issues involves with big data. With the collection of "big data" now becoming commonplace there are more corporations that have access to large amounts of personal data and likely know a lot more about you than you realise! Apps you likely use on a daily basis such as Tiktok, BeReal. and Instagram are constantly gathering data about you each time you use the app. I ha...

What you could learn on Salesforce Trailhead?

Hi all, hope you are well! Welcome back to the 5th edition of my up and coming blog! This week I took a dive into Salesforce : Trailhead and tried my hand at some of the learning modules on the site. I have used Salesforce prior on my workplace so I was vaguely familiar with the platform so I was excited to trying out some interesting modules.  The first course I tried was comparing business analyst and administrative roles. I chose this as one of my previous jobs was largely admin work so I wanted to see how it differed from a business analyst position. It is key to note that there is an overlap in key skills namely communication and leadership skills but business analysts tend to be better problem solvers as their job involves a lot of analysing to provide data-driven solutions whereas admin work tends to be more operational such as creating reports and dashboards. I feel that business analysts would have more interaction with customers but business admins are integral to a...

Companies that have successfully implemented enterprise applications.

Hi all, welcome back to another blog! This week I take a look at enterprise applications and how they are used in businesses. 👇 Enterprise applications are central to almost all businesses in the modern day. By definition an enterprise system is a large software system platform designed to be used in a corporate environment such as a business or government entity. I have used different enterprise applications whilst working in Bausch & Lomb, Arachas & PwC. My college experience with enterprise applications came during my ERP module in year 3 where I gained a strong understanding of SAP, although it took me some time to figure it out! I will begin by speaking about Amazon as I was intrigued to learn that the enterprise application that they have adopted. Amazon began using SAP in 2008. They felt their old system was outdated and needed urgent change. It's no surprise given the success and global presence of Amazon that the change was successful. They now use SAP in all dep...

Why do companies often struggle with Information Systems Implementation?

Hi all, welcome back to my blog! This week I am going to talk about information systems and how valuable they are to companies but not always successful....👇 In modern times organisations are investing more and more resources in order to stay up to date with an ever changing business landscape. A huge part of this is incorporating the latest and most advanced technologies into their business. However, the implementation of information systems can pose difficulties to a business if not done correctly. Sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that cause these issues such as an unwillingness for employees to adapt to the new system. In my time including my work placement I have worked in 3 different office environments and I have seen staff even senior staff reluctant to adapt to even a slight change in how things are done so I am well aware of the struggles a company may face when implementing new systems. Some of the most prominent issues may be: Inadequate Training: If employees, ...
