Hi all! Welcome to my new blog, I'm new to this so don't be too harsh! In this blog I will give my views and opinions on a range of different business related topics over the coming weeks, I hope to keep you engaged and maybe learn a thing or two.
As this is my first blog I am going to begin by introducing myself. My name is William Halpin and I am from a small parish called Slieverue in south Kilkenny, only 5 minutes away from Waterford city.
I am 21 years old and I am in my final year of BBS (Hons) at SETU Waterford. I am in the accountancy stream and am hoping for a minimum 2:1 degree from my final year studies. I feel I have benefitted greatly from my 9 month stint of work placement at PwC. I was a member of the tax team in the Waterford office and I was delighted to accept an offer to return to the company after my final year depending on my results.
During my placement I learned of the importance of information systems in the workplace. In the modern day with the reliance on technology they are the backbone to any business. Whether it be a small shop using software to keep track of stock and sales or the systems used by a multinational corporation, without information systems the majority of firms simply could not function.
At PwC we had a few different systems that were vital for our day to day activities. First of all we had timesheets which were powered by a system called iPower. This is how we kept track of what we were doing with our work time and it allowed the company to use this information in order to bill clients.
On top of this, in the tax department we had 2 main information systems. Alphatax contained all the information and tools needed to carry out a corporation tax computation for companies. Then for our income tax returns we used a software called Taxpro which had all the information on our income tax clients and allowed us to prepare the income tax returns.
Throughout this module I look forward to learning more about digital systems and how they can benefit me in my career!
Thanks for reading, I hope you learned a bit about me and stay tuned for my next blog.
Take care!

Great to learn more about you William
